[Student's Essay] "Easter"

Easter is a Christian holiday that  celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. After dying on the cross, his body was placed in a tomb where he remained until his resurrection, when his spirit and body were reunited. It is the most important day of the Christian religion, when people go to church and participate in religious ceremonies.

Most of the traditions of Easter refer to acts that were incorporated into Christian life. The Pagan tribes of Europe celebrated the birth of Spring in late March, it was the worship of the goddess of Spring, “Eostre”. Some philosophers say that it was from that which the word came into English.

The symbol of Easter is the rabbit, that means fertility and comes from the fact that rabbits are notable for their ability to reproduce. As Easter is resurrection and rebirth, there’s nothing better than rabbits to        symbolize fertility!

[Student's Essay] My First Impression Of Brisbane's City

MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF BRISBANE’S CITY

Beautiful! That was my first impression when I arrived in Brisbane.

It was late at night, but that wasn’t a problem because I could see all the lights in the city, the buildings and the calm of the river. It was very nice.

Brisbane is wonderful, you can find a lot of different things to do, my first day here was an absolutely shock! Because the first thing I noticed when I got on the bus to come to the city was the diversity of people. There were many different nationalities on the bus and there are even more in the city.

I am certain that coming to Brisbane was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. And choosing international institute of Australia to study was even better! The standard of education is really high, and all the staff and teachers are incredible, always trying to help you to improve your English or with anything else you need.

There are a lot of things waiting to be discovered, people to meet and things to learn. I hope enjoy this opportunity as the much as I can.

[Student's Essay] Impression of Brisbane

Having grown in a little place where mountains and plains are the only thing that fill one's eyesight, skyscrapers and tall edifice of modern world are never been a part of my vision since then. Brisbane has all that. It is a place where people of different races seem to rush everyday. It’s a busiest place to be in. The coolest place I have been to as its temperature is degrees below to what I have been used to.

Modernized is the word I can associate Brisbane with.  The tall buildings and modern infrastructures around the city are the things modern world has. This is the first thing that caught my attention the first time I step and it still continues to amaze me until today.

Also, it’s hard not to notice how busy this city is. People are rushing to work every morning with their suitcases and cups of coffee. They walk very fast like there always something they have to catch.

Brisbane temperature is way too cold that keeps me wearing jacket everyday.  It goes degrees below compare to the humid and tropical temperature of Philippines. However, it is not cold enough that I have to light a fire inside the room.

Having been here is the best treat life has presented to me. The experience and the good things it has brought surpass all the inconvenience it may have caused, if there is any.

[Student's Essay] Scholarship at IIA

Hi everybody my name is MARCELA, I’m from Colombia. I have been in Brisbane for 15 months and here at I.I.A for 6 months.

 Last month something great happened to me, I.I.A. awarded me a scholarship. This means I can stay longer and learn more English.

Sometimes I think why me?
I think back to when I first arrived here in Brisbane, when I couldn’t say any words in English. It’s very difficult when you try to express what you like or dislike and you can’t think of the right words.

Now it is better for me at I.I.A. My English has improved. I’ve met many lovely people from different countries.
Every day I learn new things, the teachers correct my English and help me to improve.
I would like to say to every one “ENJOY EVERY DAY OF YOUR STAY HERE IN AUSTRALIA. This experience will change your future for the better if you let it. This is one of the most incredible experiences you can have."
